New AtomixMag update 2.0.1 available now

We’ve noticed that many of you are having problems with the latest issue of AtomixMag while you were trying to subscribe or open the new issue. We are glad to announce that we’ve identified this problem and that the solution is available now via an update.
These are the problems fixed:
- We solved the bug that could make the app crash after touching the download button after subscribing.
- We solved the bug that makes the app ask subscribers to complete the whole subscription process again when they already did it.
- We fixed the problem that could make the app crash after a new issue was installed.
It’s important to tell you that, if you are migrating from app version 1.0.7 into version 2.0, it will be necessary to download the issues that you want to read again. (They’re now all free.)
We appreciate your patience and understanding, and apologize for any inconvenience. Please don’t forget to update you app to the latest version (2.0.1) and enjoy Atomix Mag.
New issue of Atomix Mag available now, along with the new version of the app (2.0)

After several months of work, we are glad to announce that the latest issue of Atomix Mag is available now for free. As part of our new strategy, we have decided to publish the magazine completely for free from now on.
We believe this is a great opportunity to get a massive, global audience all around the world. We truly believe in the magazine as an original product that we need to share with everyone who loves videogames and owns an iPad.
We’re confident that this is the best decision to ensure the magazine’s success. 2012 will be an important year for Atomix Mag, and we hope you can stay and continue with us in this amazing adventure that started last April.
But wait, there’s more! We also have an important announcement about the new version of the app (v2.0).
Subscription Support
It’s here and better than you expected: free subscriptions. Each issue will be available for free, but you will have the option to subscribe for free as well so you don’t have to worry about new issues being released. This is the option we recommend to all our users. The more subscribers we have, the better things are for the future of our publication. Please subscribe!
Newsstand Support
Atomix Mag is now fully compatible with Newsstand on your iPad. From now on, you will no longer see the app icon in the iPad. Each cover will appear automatically inside Newsstand and will be replaced with the latest cover every time a new issue is available. If you are subscribed, every new issue will download automatically in the background or you’ll be notified about the new issue available if your Atomix Mag app is not running.
System updates
• The magazine loads faster.
• New download system design; once you are downloading the issue, the download will continue even if you restart the app or the iPad.
• New “installing issue” notification has been added.
More stability and general improvements
• We continue to make the app more stable. We also added new graphical effects when you run or close an issue of the magazine.
• We fixed the problems related to the download and installation process as well as minor bug fixes.
Now let’s talk about the new issue
We’re really proud to announce our most content-rich issue not only in terms of articles and video, but also in the form of interactivity and sound design. In the last months of 2011, we saw the release of many AAA games, like Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Uncharted 3.
But Atomix Mag is more than a mainstream video game magazine, as we are aware of the influence of classic games as well as other forms of gaming like iOS titles.
That’s why in this issue, you’ll find a wide spectrum of content. Here’s the exclusive content for Issue #8 of Atomix Mag:
• New Super Mario Bros. 3D — Has Nintendo finally developed the missing link between 2D and 3D Mario?
• Buried Treasure — We take a look at one of the most beloved Japanese developers.
• Vox Populi — Lexaloffle Games’ Voxatron re-imagines the legendary Voxel for the modern era.
• Kill Ten Rats — MMOs have enough potential to fulfill even our wildest childhood fantasies. We get back to the genre’s origins to explain its fundamental flaws.
• Plastic Toys — Is Skylanders the ultimate toy or just an evil plan to take all of our money?
• Jobs — A small tribute to the man that made Atomix Mag possible in its current form.
• iOS — A look at three great experiences for your iPad. We talk about how iOS has become a strong platform to welcome games like Aquaria, Katamari Amore, and Scribblenauts Remix.
• Hollowed: A Dark Souls Narrative Part II — The second part of the well-received story about one of the hardest (and most rewarding) experiences of 2011.
• Lost — Is Uncharted 3 the same must-play experience as its predecessors? We take a deep look to find out its flaws and achievements.
• Cover feature: Skyrim — We analyze one of the RPGs that define this generation. Explore Skyrim thanks to our interactive video map.
• The Six of Seabass — Can Pro Evolution Soccer regain its lost fan base? We asked the man in charge this and other important questions.
• Fujibayashi’s Zelda — Our editors wrote about some of the most interesting and unknown Zeldas to date.
• Take your bombs off — Why Zelda games are like your microwave.
• Legend — A Zelda you can fall in love with.
• Call of Jury: Internal Warfare — We analyze the struggle Infinity Ward endured to develop Modern Warfare 3.
• The Brink of Time — Chrono Trigger: one of the most beloved RPGs ever. We take a different approach to express how important is to us.

Atomix Mag Issue #7 is now available!

Let’s talk about Issue #7. Even though we know that seven issues aren’t very many, we are very excited to continue working and improving the app every month while also offering you the best content possible, with a mix of opinions and special features about the video games industry and gaming in general – things we love as much as you do.
In this issue, you’ll find all kind of content, including a couple of interviews with two opposite characters in the industry. We sat and talked with eccentric game developer and producer Suda 51 from Grasshopper Manufacture, who tells us about the present and the future of their studio and his perspective about the video games industry in general. Also, we talked with Brian Proviciano, the mind behind Retro City Rampage, a GTA-like 8-bit game.
We also have a special feature about Sony’s beloved franchise Ratchet & Clank, as well as a deep analysis about the new model of gameplay known as “Role-Playing Shooter”. Is this the future of gaming? Find out here. We also talk about sports video games in general and how these titles are doing a great job teaching people the games they’re simulating. On the other side, if you are ready for an epic journey, take a look at the narrative about From Software’s Dark Souls.
If you are into superheroes, Batman is our cover feature, with a retrospective about the Dark Knight’s best and worst titles, and a deep analysis about the new game which claims to be the best superhero video game ever made. We also have an in-depth article about failure in video games. Make sure you know how many lives you have lost over the years in this fantastic article. And that’s not all, as we have much more content waiting for you in this issue.
Always remember that, in Atomix Mag, we try to be very different as we offer content that the consumer can scan and enjoy with every new issue, and we hope you are doing so. Atomix Mag Issue #6 is now available!

We’re six issues in and we’ve already released six very unique publications. These past few months have been a fantastic adventure for all of us, and the fact that we’re creating new, valuable, and authentic content is what drives us to keep making the mag better, waiting for all you to be pleased with the evolution of the magazine.
Since the beginning of this project, the video content has been one of the most important features this mag has offer, and in this sixth issue, you can see tangible evidence of this. Besides all the great text articles with opinions about different games, this month we have fantastic interviews with big industry personalities. From the indie scene, Phil Fish explains how Fez became a reality as well as one of the most anticipated upcoming games. We also have an interview with Gears of War Executive Producer Rod Fergusson as he tells us how he feels now that the trilogy has come to its end. The interview is accompanied by an epic text feature written by Tim Rogers and Urovoros. For the Halo fanatics, Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director of the series, explains the past, present, and future of a series that has left its mark on the videogame industry for the last decade.
The written content is a fundamental complement to these features. In this latest issue, you’ll find opinions and analysis articles about games like Resistance 3, Star Fox 64 3D, El Shaddai, and a remarkable flashback to Fumito Ueda’s fantastic creations with the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection. In Atomix Mag, zombies always have a place in the magazine, so we can’t wait to tell you about our experience with Dead Island and much more.

Atomix Mag Issue #5 is out and live!
Atomix Mag is not a static magazine, but at the same time, we are concerned with not losing ourselves in that sea of information which flood our screens every day. This new issue is a step forward in both directions. You will notice that we have learned so much about how a digital iPad magazine should read in terms of interactivity and new forms of content to experiment with. You will also see in this new issue that a lot of contributing editors from around the world are part of it. Our original idea was to create a global magazine with high-quality standards for a global public, and that idea is stronger than ever.
This month, you’ll enjoy an exclusive video feature about Hideo Kojima, one of the most important and influential video game developers in the industry. We followed him on his trip from Mexico to Costa Rica and talked with him about his future with Kojima Productions, the new FOX Engine, his favorite movies, and more. We also have a feature about the video games industry in Australia as well as an interview with the studios behind Sound Shapes, one of the most anticipated games for the PS Vita. We also sat down and talked with Kudo Tsunoda, the man behind the development of Xbox 360 Kinect.
Take a sneak peak of it here:
Atomix Mag is a timeless magazine. We care about the present, past, and future of video games. The feature Video Games: The Basketball is all about how the industry should learn more from sports like football, soccer, and basketball. We also talk about Catherine (one of the most authentic titles of the year) as well as the Dynasty Warriors series and Duke Nukem Forever, two experiences that always produce polarizing opinions. This issue has many different points of view, including a look at Eric Chahi’s return to the games industry with From Dust and analysis of the brilliantly immense Final Fantasy Tactics and Super Meat Boy. We also celebrate the return of our favorite plumber with an article about Mario’s 2D games and much more.
In addition to all this stellar content, we also want to remind you that we will continue improving the app’s stability. As you may notice, the reading experience is much more dependable compared to the last issue. We hope you notice all the positive changes we have made for you.

Innovative features that enable new ways to interact with the content

express the original message from each of the writers’ contributions to the

itself, but also how you interact with it. We hope to convey to you our passion
and dedication with every single article we made for this issue.

The future of Atomix Mag.
It’s only been two and a half months since we launched our first issue, but it feels like we’ve been around for ages, right? Maybe it’s because we’ve been working on this since May 2010, or maybe because it has been two crazy busy months. Either way, it’s been quite a ride.
E3 is just around the corner, and we are super excited about it. While we get ready for the show, I can tell you in advance that we are preparing a bunch of features and getting many interviews with world-famous leading game designers and producers. Atomix will be there and I promise you: We are going to have some kick-ass content for the mag over the next few months.
As you may already know, Area 5 has decided to take a step in a different direction, and we totally understand and support them. They are a bunch of talented guys, and we couldn’t be happier to have worked with them. We really wish them the best of luck. As for Atomix, we will pursue the original vision we had since day one: to become a truly global product with contributors, editors and freelancers working with us all around the world. We’ve set our goals high, and we are working every day to succeed in this objective.
In just a few months, we’ve learned from many different things, including technical issues and unknown limitations we never imagined before launching our product. Developing for iPad and mobile devices is really fun, and we knew from day one that, in order create a perfect product which would be stable and bug free, it would require a large amount of time and patience. We’ve heard the complaints and suggestions, and we’ve been processing every bug report from every corner of the world. Step by step we are building a better, more stable, and more reliable app. Just over the last few weeks, we’ve made a bunch of improvements, including moving to a faster ISP for content delivery, fixing more bugs, and learning more about technical limitations about our platform running on iPad.
Please consider that Atomix Mag is built on top of it’s own “engine”. To create all the contents you see each and every month, we are developing our own tools and software. We are not using just any random technology for iPad or Tablet content creations because we don’t want to get stuck with a bunch of average features that you will start to see in many different publications in the market. This is a difficult decision, but we know it will be better in the long run.
For me, what’s worth noticing is that even big publishers like Condé Nast and Time Warner are still figuring out the best business model for their iPad publications. Heck, even yesterday there was some news of an iPad version of Wired Magazine! In a way, I feel like we are learning every day from this market and we are all inside a giant lab doing this crazy little experiment called “How Magazines Should Look and Feel in the Future”.
Atomix Magazine is still a big freaking experiment and we will continue to innovate in our space. Being the first video game magazine created for iPad is not enough, and we won’t stand still. We have a bunch of ideas you will start noticing over the next few months, and we ask you to stay on board with us on this journey.
We really want to thank all of our readers and consumers around the world that supported us during our launching period, especially since we know that some of you really suffered in order to get the magazine due to many different technical issues. To thank you all and try to return you some good will, we’ve decided that our 3rd issue will be free of charge. While we are still trying to figure out the best business model for this company, we really want to thank each and every one of you who are making this possible every single month.
Expect an update for the app over the next week just before E3, and expect our third issue ready for E3 week (first week of June as usual), and trust us when we say that Atomix is here to stay.
Thank you all. We’ll keep in touch.
